We are living in unprecedented times. A historic era. Although this COVID-19 presence can be scary for you and your family, it can also be used as an opportunity to reflect on & grow the relationships we have, as well as improve the lifestyle we live. You may even find some solace in taking control of the things that you can.
At Uprise Nutrition we have always been a strong supporter of well rounded functional fitness and health. Part of this health is maintaining a healthy immune system. How to boost your immune system in a few easy steps will make you that much more prepared if needed.
Firstly, we believe it's important to approach this topic as holistically as possible. Although fitness and conditioning don't play a direct role in how to boost your immune system having a healthy heart and lung capacity should be a priority in your overall wellness. Being "fit for the fight" will only help the cause if and when your body is fending off a virus. If you are interested in seeing our Quarantine Home Workout Series, please check this out here.
Part of this preparation for pre-immune boost, is to be on a consistent healthy sleep schedule. Getting yourself into a mental head space where the stress of life will come and go, but not control your emotions and blood pressure.
Secondly is your diet. In general, gut health is directly tied to overall body health. This includes inflammation of your digest tract. Look to cut out processed foods, sugars, and simple carbs. The best way to look at this is "if it didn't grow out for the ground, walk on its own feet, or swim", don't eat it. This will help for 90% of decisions, but you can even go as far to only eat cage free, wild caught, organic, hormone free food choices to further commit.
Lastly is proper supplementation. If you have your fitness, lifestyle, and diet under control. Good supplementation is a great way on how to boost your immune system. Starting with a strong Multi-Vitamin and adding Vitamin A, B12, C, D, and Zinc, will help support a strong immune system. Zinc is particularly important, especially the picolinate derivative.
